The Lake

We purchased our house at the end of June of 2009.  So far we've been in the house over a year and a half and are steadily making updates and repairs as needed.  An ongoing issue has been water collecting in our crawlspace.  Our home is one of the lucky few that requires a sump pump to pump water out from under our house.

The old sump pump became completely corroded and we had to replace it with a new one.  This became an issue in itself.  First we had to figure out what fittings we needed, and then by the time we had an opportunity to work on the project, it was much to flooded under the house to install the pump.  Then the holidays came, and the large puddle was put off.  Unfortunately, the rains continued.

This past week I took a peek under the house and surveyed the damage.  Yikes!  The puddle had turned into a large large lake.  The water level was at the top of the 1 foot cement pilings, and under all three bedrooms.  We couldn't put this problem off any longer.

On Saturday my dad and Brent headed to the hardware store to get together some supplies.  The boys wouldn't be able to permanently install the sump pump, but could at least use the pump to get the water under the house.  During the prep work, Liam continued to distract Grandpa, and wanted to be in the middle of it all.

Sporting Dad's Bobcat hat.  Go Bobcats!
Finally the boys made it under the house and it took them a half hour to get everything pumped out through a 1.5 inch hose.  Thankfully, the water is all gone, but come this summer, it will be time to go back and permanently install the pump.

I'm so grateful for my dad and all his help.  Brent is great at repairs and updates to our home, but I'm not always the best assistant.  My abilities and strength are limited, and someone has to keep an eye on the kiddo during projects.  Toting him under the house wasn't an option ;)
