Cabinets!

 Yesterday was cabinet install day!  Below are pictures showing the latest work, and new cabinets.

Drywall is up, textured, and painted.  All three of us chose this squash color, and I purposefully didn't paint any areas that would be covered by the new cabinets.

Here's a reminder of the old cabinets.

Ta-Da!  New, pristine, white cabinets.  It took 2 men, 8 hours to get these all in.

The old kitchen had a row of cabinets over the peninsula.  Removing those from the new design made for a much more open feel.  (Note we will be adding pendant lights over the peninsula.)

We've decided we'll need to add one more recessed light over the beverage area on the left.  It's just too dark over there, and with the stem glass holders, we can't have under cabinet lighting there.

We attempted to install the new microwave last night.  This picture was taken after several attempts, and ending with the microwave falling and shattering the door glass.  $100 later, and the new microwave door is on back order. (I didn't post a picture of the damaged microwave, we're still pretty upset at ourselves.)

We'll have to take the fridge out again in order to install the floors, but for now it's  place.

Love, love, love the pull out trash and recycle center we now have.  I'll be able to sweep stuff off the counter top, right into the trash bin :) 

Today our general contractor is back doing some finishing work, and installing the soft close mechanisms on the cabinet doors.  Last night, Liam was already slamming the doors.  I'm glad Brent insisted on the soft close.  It will extend the life of our cabinets.

We're also having the counter top template made today.  Then two weeks until those are installed.

Next week we'll begin the last BIG job.  Installing 310 square feet of wood laminate flooring.  If anyone wants to help, we could sure use it.  I estimate it will take a few days for the two of us to get the job done, and maybe even longer since we also have to keep Liam entertained while we work.
